Russia visa for Indian passport holders

Short-visit route

Indian ordinary-passport holders can apply for Russia’s unified e-visa for qualifying short tourism, private or business visits. India is on the official eligible-country list. The MFA entry table does not give ordinary Indian tourists a general visa-free route; its passport and aircrew exceptions are separate. An e-visa is not permission to work, study, reside or make a transit-only trip. Check the conditions below before applying. Last checked 26 September 2026.

Who this answer covers

This guide concerns the ordinary national passport you will travel on, not residence in India, ethnicity or departure airport. Diplomatic and service passports, aircrew, Russian citizenship and existing immigration status are separate cases. This page is not a personal eligibility decision.

Check the whole trip

Check the passport nationality and type, purpose, entry date, stay and both border crossings before choosing a visa. This is general guidance, not a personal eligibility decision. The Russian Visa Guide checker and application collection are not active.

Choose the route for your trip

Short tourism, private or business visit

Check the unified e-visa conditions. A regular visa is a different route if the e-visa conditions do not fit.

Work, study or residence

Do not use the short-visit e-visa answer. Ask the competent Russian consular or immigration authority about the route and documents for your purpose.

Transit-only trip

Transit is not an e-visa purpose. This guide does not decide whether your particular airport transfer needs a transit visa.

Special passport or status

Diplomatic/service passports, aircrew, Russian citizenship and existing Russian status need a separate assessment; do not generalise their exceptions to ordinary tourists.

Purpose, stay and timing

A unified e-visa is single-entry, valid for 120 days from issue and allows up to 30 days in Russia. Arrival and departure each count as a day. The 120-day validity is not a 120-day stay. Submit no earlier than 86 days and no later than 4 days before expected entry. The MFA states processing within four calendar days; its FAQ excludes the submission day and restarts the period after a corrected application is resubmitted. These are official conditions, not a guarantee of issuance, entry or a personal decision time.

Prepare a machine-readable national passport issued by your country of nationality, with your full date of birth, at least six months’ validity from application and space for border stamps. Prepare JPEG passport-page and face images; each child needs a separate application and e-visa. No invitation or hotel-booking confirmation is required for the e-visa application, but the official FAQ still asks for planned accommodation details. A regular visa can require different documents. Use the shared document checklist and application steps.

Medical insurance

The official instructions require medical insurance valid in Russia for the entire stay, subject to reciprocity exceptions. This review has not established an India-specific exemption or a universal minimum cover amount. Do not treat a missing insurance question in the application as an exemption. Check your policy’s Russia territory, dates and exclusions. We do not select or sell a policy here.

India visa costs and application questions

How much is a Russian tourist visa for an Indian citizen?

First distinguish a unified e-visa from a regular tourist visa. The official e-visa application is paid and the payment is non-refundable; children under six do not pay the consular fee, which does not establish exemption from every charge. We have not verified an exact India-specific total or currency. Check the official payment step for an e-visa and the competent consulate for a regular visa. Keep government charges, optional assistance and insurance separate. Checked 13 October 2026. Official fee condition, section 12

Where can I check or download my Russia e-visa decision?

Use the official MFA account or app. “Processing completed” means a decision has been made, not necessarily that the visa was granted. Open the result PDF and read it. If granted, print the notification or save it on your mobile device for presentation. Follow the shared status and download guide. Checked 13 October 2026. Official instructions

Can I extend my stay with another e-visa?

Do not plan on that. The official instructions provide exceptional emergency or force-majeure extension procedures through the Russian migration authority. Read the shared stay and validity guide. Checked 13 October 2026. Official extension conditions, sections 7–8

Check entry and exit before booking

An e-visa is valid only at the officially listed border crossing points, for both entry and exit. Being listed does not prove that a flight, land crossing or service is currently operating. Check the actual travel route and operational notices separately.

If you need a regular visa in India

The official regular-visa form lets you complete and print an application; it is not an issued visa. The MFA India directory lists the embassy in New Delhi and consulates in Calcutta (Kolkata), Madras (Chennai) and Mumbai, plus visa centres in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi. Confirm the competent submission location, purpose-specific documents, fees and procedure directly. The New Delhi consular appointment system is an official booking route, not a promise of an available appointment or visa.

Apply yourself through the official MFA channel. Russian Visa Guide is not offering visa submission, insurance quotes or paid assistance through this page. Any later service would need its own disclosed terms and a separate fee from government charges and insurance.
