Russia e-visa: eligibility, requirements and application

Russia’s unified e-visa: eligibility, passport and insurance requirements, stay and validity. Find the official application route and guides for each step.

What is the Russia e-visa?

The unified e-visa is an online route for qualifying short visits, with one entry and up to 30 days in Russia within a 120-day validity period. An entry on the official e-visa country list does not by itself establish that this is the right route for your trip. Confirm your passport, purpose and dates against current official instructions before applying.

Who can apply?

Check the complete official nationality list. Listing is only one condition: confirm your passport type, purpose and travel dates in the official instructions before applying. This page does not make a nationality-specific entry decision.

Choose your next e-visa task

Use this overview to understand the route before starting an application.

Use passport nationality, purpose, travel dates and document type together. This guide does not provide a personal route decision; check the official instructions for your case.

The official application path

  1. Read the current portal instructions and confirm the route.

  2. Prepare the passport data image and face photograph.

  3. Create your own official account, complete the form and pay the official charge.

  4. Check for correction requests in that account. See how to read your application status.

  5. Read the decision and, if granted, keep the notification for your carrier and border control.

Official sources

Purpose matters

This guidance concerns a national passport, a qualifying short visit and travel without Russian citizenship or a special status. Work, study, residence, unusual documents and a transit-only journey require a separate assessment. The portal also lists specified event purposes; describe the real purpose rather than selecting tourism to fit the form.

Medical insurance

For an e-visa stay, the portal requires medical insurance valid in Russia for the whole stay, subject to reciprocity exceptions. We have not established whether an exception applies to your nationality. Read the travel insurance for Russia: requirements and policy checklist before choosing a policy.

Keep the costs separate

Government charge: check the amount and payment currency in the official application. A consular-fee exemption for a child under 6 does not establish that all payment charges are waived.

Assistance fee: no paid application service is available here yet.

Medical insurance: priced separately under the insurer’s terms; no quote is available here.

The official portal states that processing payments are non-refundable irrespective of the decision.

Check both border crossings

Use the official checkpoint list for both arrival and departure. Separately confirm that the crossing and your transport are operating; an authorised entry point is not a transport timetable.
